The Redistricting Heist: Texas and California Show Us Why Populism Matters
I’m a Texan by birth, and I’ve lived across this country — including California. I’ve seen the red machine grind people down, and I’ve seen the blue machine polish itself up while pulling the same tricks. Yesterday proved what I already knew: the political establishment doesn’t work for us. It works for itself.
Texas: Gerrymandering in Broad Daylight
In Texas, Republicans just ripped up the congressional map to steal five seats for themselves. They didn’t even hide it. They walked right in and said, “We’ll decide what your vote is worth.”
This isn’t about serving Texans. It’s about cementing control for a party that’s long forgotten everyday people. Texans deserve real representation — not rigged districts designed to make sure the same folks stay in power.
California: The Blue Mask Slips
California likes to preach about democracy and fairness. They built an “independent” redistricting system that was supposed to be untouchable. But yesterday, Newsom tore it up. Why? Because Texas Republicans made a move, and he wanted his own power play.
Five new Democratic seats, cooked up overnight. Democrats call it “strategy.” I call it the same establishment fraud Texans just pulled — just with a different color jersey.
Let’s be real: Newsom isn’t standing up for the people. He’s standing up for his party’s grip on power. That’s not moral leadership — that’s politics as usual.
Fear and Panic in Austin
The people can feel the stakes. The Texas Capitol had to be evacuated after a shooter threat tied to this political fight. Think about that: citizens, staff, and leaders running from their own Capitol while politicians redraw the rules for their own survival. That’s the climate these power games create — anger, fear, instability.
The Populist Reality Check
Here’s what yesterday showed: neither party has our back. Red or blue, they’re carving up maps to protect their jobs, not ours. They’ve turned democracy into a casino, and they think we’re just chips on their table.
But here’s where Green populism comes in: the people should be the ones drawing the lines, setting the rules, and deciding who speaks for us. Not politicians in back rooms. Not governors with one eye on Washington. Us — the people who actually live in these communities.
“I was born in Texas. I’ve lived in California. I’ve watched both parties sell out fairness for power. That’s why I believe in Green populism — because the establishment will never give us democracy, we have to take it back. Redistricting should be about neighborhoods, families, and communities — not politicians choosing their voters. Until we reclaim the system, all we’re doing is watching crooks shuffle a rigged deck.”
I’m traveling coast to coast, meeting Greens, supporting down-ballot candidates, and connecting with you directly where you are. Unlike career politicians, I fund my journey by working gigs like DoorDash and Instacart—time that could be spent building real change.
